What are the human impact requirements?
Glazing in some locations in buildings is vulnerable to human impact. These critical locations include:
- In and around doors, particularly side panels.
- Panels that may be mistaken for a door.
- Panels at low levels in walls and partitions.
- Bathrooms, spa rooms and ensuites.
- Schools and childcare facilities.
- Nursing homes and aged care facilities.
- Buildings associated with special activities, e.g. gymnasia, enclosed swimming pools, etc.
Glass must be assessed for human impact requirements as well as wind loads. Human impact requirements
may exceed wind load requirements (refer to section 5 of AS1288 for further
advice).
